What is Azure fundamentals?

Azure fundamentals is basically a guide to Azure that gives you orientation on Azure and its features and services. Whether you are a beginner or have little experience in cloud. Azure fundamentals is a good place to start and it provides you with what you need to get started.

In this article, we’ll be touching the knowledge domains of Azure fundamentals, though not in-depth but to give you insight on what Azure fundamentals about.

Knowledge domains of Azure fundamentals

Cloud concepts- Cloud computing involves delivering computing services over the internet(cloud). Computing services include database, networking, software analytics, server and intelligence. A cloud environment offers benefits such as reliability, scalability, elasticity, agility, geo-distribution and disaster recovery.

Azure Cloud Models are:

Service model:

- IaaS(Infrastructure as a Service) eg. Azure Virtual Machines

- PaaS(Platform as a Service) eg Azure App Services

- SaaS(Software as a Service) eg Office 365

Deployment model:

-Public model

- Private model

- Hybrid model

Core Azure services — This includes;

-Azure database and analytics services- Azure Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, and so on.

- Azure compute services- Azure Virtual Machine, Azure Kubernetes service and Azure container instances.

- Azure storage — Azure disk storage, blob access tiers, Azure files, blob storage.

- Azure networking services- Azure virtual network, VPN gateway and ExpressRoute.

Core solutions and management tools- Core solutions include a wide collection of tools and services from Microsoft Azure. This includes;

-Azure AI services

- Software development services

- Cloud monitoring services

- Azure tools for managing and configuring Azure environment

-Azure sever-less technology

-Azure IoT service for application.

Azure general security and networking security features- Azure security center monitors the security posture across all your services both on-premises and Azure. It applies good security strategy in every level.

Azure identity, governance, privacy and compliance features- Due to the rise in remote work, cloud apps and bring your own device(BYOD) identity theft is rising. Authentication and authorization is duly applied and this is where good cloud governance comes into play. Azure offers privacy, data protection and compliance strategies.

Azure cost management and service level agreement (SLA)- Azure costs are compared and workload estimated using the Total Cost of Ownership Calculator and pricing calculator respectively.
